Hot Bread Kitchen
Hot Bread Kitchen is a workforce development program that provides job placement and economic mobility for women, immigrants, and people of color in New York City through careers in food. Since its creation in 2008, Hot Bread Kitchen has successfully placed hundreds of women in jobs, incubated over 250 businesses, and has had over $100M in regional economic impact.
UPC was engaged by Hot Bread Kitchen (HBK) to aid in their search for a new space to house their incubator kitchens, culinary teaching space, and offices. UPC's role included assessment of real estate options, providing budgetary information and construction guidance, as well as assisting with programming, real estate location, and evaluation. This search culminated in the decision to move HBK into a built-out space that closely fit their needs in a converted warehouse in the Broadway Triangle area of Brooklyn. UPC also provided assistance in determining the key renovations required in the space, including lighting and operational upgrades for the existing mechanical equipment; as well as helping to create space-planning diagrams for an adjacent office space.
