Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School (LAB) is an open enrollment public charter school located in downtown Brooklyn. The mission of LAB is to prepare students with an academic foundation, digital literacy, and the leadership skills necessary to excel both in college and their professional lives as they grow into ethical leaders. LAB opened in Fall 2014 in the heart of downtown Brooklyn for its inaugural 6th grade and has grown exponentially since then.
UPC was engaged to provide owners representative services for the interior fit-out of 60,000 SF over five floors in a commercial building that now serves as the Brooklyn Laboratory Charter High School. UPC’s role included working with the design team and owner to secure the necessary approvals, engaging the general contractor, and providing oversight during a fast-track 14-week construction process.
More recently, UPC worked with LAB on preparations for return to school in 2020. UPC's role included engaging a “think-tank” of five design firms to develop a tool kit of options that allowed LAB to successfully open and remain open throughout the 2020-2021 school year.
