The Women’s Building
The State’s first-ever “Women’s Building” was planned as a conversion of the former Bayview Correctional Facility, a 100,000 SF women’s prison located in Chelsea that operated from 1974 to 2013. The program included dedicated working space for community service organizations, an auditorium, gal- leries, a cafe, wellness facilities and a theater.
UPC was engaged to provide owners representative services to the NoVo Foundation. UPC's role included establishing the project team and addressing the State and Community Board concerns. UPC managed the design team, developed project budgets, and on-boarded the construction manager. UPC oversaw the design through various schematic options ranging from interior renovation to new construction, working in collaboration with both SHPO and the Community Board.
